THE PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Brian Carter, KCØDWX

Hopefully everyone has been getting ready for the colder weather ahead, it seems like things go from extremes rather than just spending a nice long time at 75 degrees. The weather for the annual MAARS picnic was great. Members enjoyed each others' company and grilled food as well as brought many wonderful dishes to share. Thank you to all who attended and we missed those who were unable to attend.

With only 2 more regular meetings left in the year we need to start the process of electing officers. Normally this process is started with a nominating committee. I will be contacting members to see if they are interested in helping out. If you are, feel free to get in touch with one of the officers or myself. I can be reached on the air or at brianc@kscable.com. Persons on the nominating committee should contact individuals who they think would be good for different offices in the club and asking them to run. Please try to respect the wishes of others, if they aren't interested then it's not a good idea to try to force them along. Persons not interested in holding offices should try to think of different programs or things they would like to do during the club meetings to help keep everyone's interest. If you know of a topic you can share for a program please volunteer to do so. Likewise, if there is something you'd like to see let us know so it can be checked into. Chances are if it interests you it would probably be of interest to many others in the club.

If you haven't done so already, it is coming up on time to renew your club membership. Membership dues help to pay the costs of repeater operation as well as newsletter and other misc. expenses. In order to vote in the November election of officers you must be paid by the end of October. Please contact Nadine Stueve (KØUHF), or another officer for more information.

Our October meeting will be held on the 12th, at 7:30 P.M. at the usual location, the Red Cross building at 2601 Anderson Ave., Manhattan, KS. Several members usually get together around 5:15 to 5:30 at the Sirloin Stockade in Manhattan to converse and eat. All members and non-members are welcome to attend both events.

Brian Carter, KCØDWX

SECRETARY'S MINUTES
Francis Sable, WØEVJ

The annual MAARS picnic was held Sunday, September 23. It was held in the shelter house at the Oregon Trial Nature Park near Belvue. The park is sponsored by Western Resources at Jeffrey Energy Center. We had good conversation and good eating. Brian (KCØDWX) brought a charcoal grill on which we heated the meat items. Nadine (KØUHF) supplied coffee and other items.

There was discussion about the annual MAARS officers election coming up at the regular meeting in November. According to the MAARS constitution, a nominating committee shall publish a list of one or more nominations for each office. Additional canidates may be nominated from the floor at the annual meeting. Self nominations are also accepted.

There were about 16 persons attending the picnic.

ARRL DUES

If you would like to become a member of or renew your membership in the American Radio Relay League and receive the monthly issue of QST, your treasurer has a form you may use to apply. If renewing, just bring along your notice of renewal to the club meeting. The club is allowed to retain $5 of each new member's dues and $2 of each full member who is renewing. Since the club retains the dues, it is necessary for you to write your check to MAARS, and then the treasurer writes a check to ARRL for the amount minus the $5 or $2.

MAARS DUES

Dues will be due by Oct. 31 and are: regular membership $20, full-time student $10, family $30. Please complete the following when renewing your membership, even if you did so last year. Return to the Treasurer, at a meeting or to MAARS, P. O. Box 613, Manhattan, KS 66505-0613.
