Monthly Newsletter Supporting the Advancement of Amateur Radio June 2005

THE PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Brian Carter, KCØDWX

I'd like to thank all who participated in the Red Cross Triathlon. On June 5th Myron and Nancy Calhoun, Francis Sable, Erin Crouch, Scott Chainey, and myself (Brian Carter) provided communications for the bicycle leg of the Triathlon. Fortunately there were no incidents that needed to be reported. Again thank you for helping.

The June meeting of the Manhattan Area Amatuer Radio Society will be a little different. We are combining dinner and our meeting together. You should plan to be at the Red Cross at 2601 Anderson by 6:00 P.M. on June 10th to join us for a potluck dinner. Please bring a dish to share and serving utensils.

For the meeting Jon Held (NØRYQ) will give us a presentation. We will also discuss or plans for Field Day.

Field Day will be held on June 25th and 26th at the Pott. County State Lake No. 1 near Westmoreland. There will be many of us camping overnight and a good time should be had by all. Hopefully we can make some contacts and practice our emergency communications set up procedures.

Remember our meeting will start at 6 P.M. with a potluck and will no doubt last a while. I hope to see you there.

Brian Carter, KCØDWX

ARRL DUES

NEW FROM ARRL - Beginning October 1, 2001, our club will receive $15 for each new member joining the ARRL through our club. This is for new members or those who have not been a member for two or more years. There will be no commission for renewals but we still may submit your renewals, if you wish. Since the club retains the dues, it is necessary for you to write your check to MAARS, and then the treasurer writes a check to ARRL.

MAARS DUES

Dues will be due by Oct. 31 and are: regular membership $20, full-time student $10, family $30. Please complete the following when renewing your membership, even if you did so last year. Return to the Treasurer, at a meeting or to MAARS, P. O. Box 613, Manhattan, KS 66505-0613. If you are currently receiving both the email and paper copy of the newsletter, please consider just receiving the email copy. It will save the club $5-6.00 per year per copy.
