Monthly Newsletter Supporting the Advancement of Amateur Radio January 2005

THE PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Brian Carter, KCØDWX

It's time to start another year with MAARS. Congratulations and thank you to the officers who are all staying in the same office for another year. Also thank you to Fred and Nadine Stueve for hosting the Christmas party again this year. A good time was had by all.

Our January 14th meeting will be at the Red Cross in Manhattan, KS. The new repeater has come in, so everyone will get a look at it as well as some discussion on the controller, as S-COM has officially quit making the 7K series in the last month. They will soon be coming out with a newer and better line of controller.

We will also need to think of events we would like to promote for this coming year. Programs for the club that you would like to see or put on for the members. Hopefully we can get off to a strong start. The interference being gone has helped us all to leave our radios on more so hopefully we will be encouraged to spend a little more time with the hobby.

We will also meet for dinner at Valentino's in Manhattan before our meeting at around 5:30 P.M. We encourage you all to come to the meeting as well as dinner before the meeting. Feel free to bring any guests who might be interested in amateur radio.

Brian Carter, KCØDWX

ARRL DUES

NEW FROM ARRL - Beginning October 1, 2001, our club will receive $15 for each new member joining the ARRL through our club. This is for new members or those who have not been a member for two or more years. There will be no commission for renewals but we still may submit your renewals, if you wish. Since the club retains the dues, it is necessary for you to write your check to MAARS, and then the treasurer writes a check to ARRL.

MAARS DUES

Dues will be due by Oct. 31 and are: regular membership $20, full-time student $10, family $30. Please complete the following when renewing your membership, even if you did so last year. Return to the Treasurer, at a meeting or to MAARS, P. O. Box 613, Manhattan, KS 66505-0613. If you are currently receiving both the email and paper copy of the newsletter, please consider just receiving the email copy. It will save the club $5-6.00 per year per copy.
